The head of Amazon’s global retail business has announced his resignation from the giant ecommerce group after 23 years.
Dave Clark, 49, who said yesterday that he had been considering his position “for some time”, will leave on July 1 “to start a new journey”.
He has been chief executive of Amazon’s worldwide consumer division since January last year, when online shopping demand was soaring after the onset of Covid-19. However, in April Amazon forecast a slowdown in growth, as people cut back on spending amid rampant inflation and return to high streets and shopping centres.
Shares in Amazon fell 2.5 per cent, or $63.22, to $2,477 in New York last night after Clark’s announcement. They are down about 28 per cent this year.
