The British microchip designer Arm has sued Qualcomm over breach of licence agreements and trademark infringement, setting the stage for a legal battle between two of the industry’s most powerful companies.
Qualcomm is accused of attempting to transfer licence agreements from Nuvia, a semiconductor business it acquired last year, without Arm’s consent.
Announcing it had filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm and Nuvia in the US District Court for the district of Delaware, Arm said: “As an intellectual property company, it is incumbent upon us to protect our rights and the rights of our ecosystem. We will work vigorously to protect what is rightfully ours and we are confident that the courts will agree with us.”
Qualcomm did not immediately respond to a request for comment
